It is raining great grand children!

Il pleut des arrière- petits-enfants

English version below the pictures .

Last Sunday we went to celebrate St Michel, as you know, at my eldest daughter Carole, the Duchess, and her knight Thierry living in the country side . But the party was twice  intense because she had just been a grandmother for the 4th time. The meal was royal: Champagne ,Picardy ficelle(starter ), roast beef with spinach and sautéed potatoes, cheese platter and a sumptuous dessert: a Saint-Honoré made by Thierry himself, a delight! The entree was accompanied by an excellent white wine (Chablis) and the meat dish and dessert by Bordeaux St Estèphe. A small glass of Cognac or Calvados helped digestion.

Carole is therefore a young grandmother of four grandchildren 3 boys and a girl who were given to her by her daughter Julie (3) and her son Thomas (1). See the two photos above.

Véronique holding (tenant) Adam (a weeek old.)

And now our second daughter Véronique also happens to be the grandmother of a little Adam born just a month and a half ago, on August 11, 2022. This graduation  was given to her by her son Luis.

So two of our six children and two of our fifteen grandchildren have already given us five great-grandchildren. Janine and I can imagine the vast Fauquet tribe behind us!

It is life that flourishes and bears much fruit. It is a blessing.

  27. Nancy Stuebs says:

Michel, that is the best kind of rain to have–great-grandchildren! It was fun when our grandchildren were growing up, and now even more of a blessing when we can hold our great-grandchildren. Because of our age we know our time with them with them will be limited, and have to enjoy them as much and as often as we can! And also to imagine how many offspring will come in the future. Ken is one of 10 children. 10 yrs. ago, some nieces and nephews organized a family reunion in a local park. Not everyone could come, though. Near the end of the day, those that were still there, sat in the bleachers of the baseball field, and had a picture taken. Over 200 of us. I was hoping that Ken’s folks were watching from Heaven, and seeing what a wonderful family they had produced! Thank you for the wonderful pictures you have posted. Beautiful memories for you and Janine! ❤ Nancy and Ken

    • Thank you, Nancy for this beautiful and interesting comment about the family. I know you and Ken are also in a huge family and you often have visits of children, grand children and great grandchildren. ❤

The days are dark. But births alway bring hope, somehow.
I will remember this and find courage. By God’s grace, perhaps I will have great-grandchildren one day!

  41. neilc693 says:

    • Thanks, Nail , for the links . They allowed me to understand what you mean . I saw on one of the last pictures the house with the outside door of the roots cave ! I understand also why Willa Cather was a good author . So much memories ! and so sensitive!
      In friendship

      • neilc693 says:

I couldn’t find a French term for “root cellar” (= for root vegetables). It seems to be a US/UK feature.

      • A cellar in France is below the house like a basement. But it happens that a cellar is dug in the yard and accessed by a door at ground level. This is what we see in one of your photos (the penultimate if I remember correctly).
What I have just written was valid until a few years ago. Now, I saw on Google, also called wine cellars, special cabinets that can be placed on the floor of an apartment. But these are not real cellars.
A few years ago I posted on Xanga or WordPress a photo of our real cellar under the house with the wine bottles.
A root cellar is a cellar where we stock veggies such potatoe tubers, carotts, and all veggies fearing the cold . I put also in our cave the Dahlias tubers .
In the pasrt my grandmother stocked the cream of her cows milk in a cellar in waiting for making buter.

      • neilc693 says:

now that you mention it, i remember your cellar for wine and vegetables. another marvelous feature of the house ! it’s a powerful scene in the Cather story: the space in the earth where the harvest is safeguarded, and the children leaping out of it.

      • During the war II we went to the cellar(cave ) to have a shelter from the bombings!

  42. neilc693 says:

the meal sounds robust. I finally looked up the gâteau St. Honoré and it’s a luxurious pastry—three kinds of cream !

    • You are right , Neil, the Saint-Honoré is a luxurious pastry made for special meal( to celebrate for instance the birth of the fourth Duhess’s grandchild
and also Michael ‘s Day!! 🙂

  43. neilc693 says:

after setbacks and difficult times life that endures will prosper . . . and with so many people the chances are good of a double celebration ! ( it’s a famous math problem to calculate the odds 🙂 )
i see also that Honoré is from Amiens and the patron saint of pastry chefs !

    • Yes St honoré was a bishop of Amiens , considered like a saint. He woold be born in Picardy. There is a church St Honoré mear my house , a modern church the ancient ne was destroyed by he bombing in war I.
I remember a mass with bakers of Amiens at this church to celebrate St Honoré some years ago . They offered bread.
