À un Dimanche après-midi à Amiens en Août.
A Sunday afternoon in Amiens in August
English version below the pictures
Last Sunday August 9, it was still hot in Amiens in northern France, my town. Numerous people left for vacation elsewhere or for the beach not so far We had two grandchildren with us ( manon and Antoine ) and we made walk downtown. On a square a concert of jazz was given by four musicians playing into a bandstand ; trumpet, trombone, accordion and double bass. They were playing with talent and energy despite of the heat
The music was in the air but it was especially enjoyable to see the crowd totally relaxed sat on the benches or lying in the grass , happy . and applauding at the end of every musical piece .The architectural décor was also part of the feast and the flowers brought their colors. The fountain brought its music and freshness. The barouche carrying the tourists was staying in front of the south front of the wonderful cathedral of Amiens
We were in vacation in our town .
Wish I had been there! It sounds like a very relaxing and enjoyable time was had by all!
How fun to have entertainment in Amiens! Wish we could’ve heard the music and enjoy the festivities!!😄😘
I thought of you recently, Angela with the news the big explosion in a harbor not so far of Beijing.
Looks relaxing
Vacationing at home is the best ❤
It would be nice to be able to walk to such a beautiful place. This is the disadvantage of the suburbs. Of course it is too hot now to be outside for anything.
It must be wnderful to wander among those architectural beauties on a nice day!
It looks like a very interesting and a relaxing place. I just loved the scenary, where people are seated watching and listening to the Jazz.
This weekend is going to be the Grandparents Day. Are there any plans by the grandchildren?
You are a fabulous Grandparent.
Angy, there is not grandparents Day in France . Only Grandmothers Day . It is not next Sunday.
However we have childen and grand chidren next week end ( tomorrow) and also the following WE.
You have a beautiful town to be on vacation in.
What I love about the first photo is that the people in the foreground appear to have their heads bowed in prayer.
I love picnics and concerts in the park or town square. We have them here also. They have them also on the riverfront in summertime, which my daughter has sometimes attended. I’ve wished to do so myself.
Thank you for sharing these photos and this experience with us, Michel! Sometimes the best vacation is close to home, or at home! 🙂
I looked at your photos and read your words, and then closed my eyes…I could hear the music, the happy chatter and applause of the people, I could smell the flowers and hear the bubbling fountain water! An escape I needed today! 🙂
❤ and HUGS!!! 🙂
Love the fountain. Looks like a perfect summer afternoon. We take day trips often and vacation close to home… it’s very enjoyable. No packing!
It happens we realize that many things or events are existing near us and we did not know . But never to late to do well ! 🙂
De très symapthiques moments de détente “à la maison” et comme dit ci-dessus, sans le souci des bagages, qui souvent sont un choix cornélien (pour les dames en tous cas) 😉
Amitiés d’été, AM
I love that you were ‘vacationing in your town’. It looks like such a fun, relaxing day. I LOVE the fountain best of all..To sit there w/music in the background..so peaceful. I’m glad you were able to do this w/your grandchildren. love, Elizabeth
How lovely and peaceful. This reminds me so much of some of the French paintings of people walking , enjoying music. The beautiful architecture is the same but the only difference from the people here and the people in the paintings is the clothing style.
Thank you for taking us on this lovely walk in your pretty and historic town.
Love,
votre amie,
Francoise.
Yes, sometimes a mini vacation in our own town can be wonderful and peaceful. I love seeing the old buildings and how beautiful they are. Still hot here in my town. 8/13/15 was 100F. This has been a very long, hot, dry summer with lots of wildfires in my state of Washington. Thank you for the lovely walk in your town. ……………………Marilyn
It looks like a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon!
The weather this week as been better here, Amiens looks lovely in the sunshine. Sometimes we are to quick to fly away before looking at all the great places to visit nearer home
Mornin Glorie…In the states I think they call it a stay-cay! What a lovely outing you had, I think I would have sat at the fountain dangling my feet in the water also! I love the summertime and the heat, it is after all suppose to be hot in the summer. I hope you have also seen the meteor shower that has been entertaining us this week! ILYM
Along the lines of what Marsha said, I have seen a couple Perseid Meteor Showers, but only if I go out into a dark parking lot. 🙂 I would love to be a tourist in Ambiens, splashing In the fountain, then meeting you for tea! I had forgotten that all of Europe is on holiday in August, to find their place in the sun. Glad you could enjoy your town’s tranquility. Love and hugs, Lowie
The fountain reminds me of the fountain of Simonville.

Your town is gorgeous. I hope to visit someday.
What a wonderful way to spend the day, Michel! A beautiful place filled with much charm. Thanks for sharing this with us, and the gorgeous photos! ❤
I love the way you describe the beautiful day you had ….on holiday…..at home. Lovely to hear the sounds.Thank you for this lovely post Michel x
What a wonderful vacation you are having in your own town. I love the fountain and the music-wonderful soothing music and soothing cool breeze from the fountain to cool you off.
This is a bit of Heaven.
Enjoy.
In the US, we call that a “staycation” (a vacation when you stay at home). It sounds lovely!
A stay at home vacation is a great way to relax. My brother and his wife are on vacation at a beach in Northern Spain. They did have almost the whole family with them. Then everyone left but the 2 of them, so they are staying a little longer to relax. He’s the one that is a jazz musician in Madrid.
I sish I could come visit you, but I don’t think I will be traveling much anymore.
Such a beautiful town!! Or is it a city? Anyway, even in the bad heat you manage to get pictures and show and tell us such beautiful things. Thank you. I love learning about where you live and what you do. It has been exceptionally hot for a long time here, too. Where I live, in southwest Florida there is nearly always a breeze and that helps to make us feel a bit cooler. We will all be glad when the summer heat goes away. Then we can start complaining about the cold 🙂 Do take care and remember to smile and hug somebody.
Hugs and smiles, Char
I have not visited there, but Your photos praise the beauty of Amiens! Je te souhaite une excellente après midi.
I am very slow to comment on blogs 😦
This looks to have been a very fun and enjoyable weekend! Summer heat is annoying, but with the right activities, we don’t mind the heat as much 🙂
I feel like I was there with you hearing the band, watching the people, enjoying the time together! What a delightful day! 🙂
