Qu’on m’amène ma flûte
English version below the pictures
I play flute since 1949. I was 15 year old . But I was almost an autodidact I played at this time in the municipal band in my birthplace town. Since then never my flute quitted me. I played alone in my room when I was student / teacher and it happened I awoke three hundred of students in three dorms early in the morning in playing Mozart . So they didn’ t get up immediately , of course !!! J .I directed also camp ( kind of holiday camps for young) and I remember playing flute at night in the dunes or the forest where the tents have been set .
When we were just married I charmed Janine in the Sunday afternoon ( we had no TV ). In holidays I played flute to help our 6 children to sleep .
Then I played from time to time , for instance to give the melody of the 4 voices of the choir I directed in Church or in the one in town in which I sing like a tenor .I have never abandoned my flute . In its box I have a old torn paper where the name of pieces of music I know from deep memory are mentioned . I play them without music paper . It is very appeasing. and I can say it more than appeasing , this is uplifting and you feel your soul
Qu’on m’ apporte ma flûte!
So my flute has always been with me. I was still playing in my garden a few years ago. I was playing from memory a melody inspired by Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Hindu Song” and “le Tambourin” by Rameau. Thanks to Janine for seizing this moment. Please be indulgent.
Now the flute is still there but the breath is missing and lips and teeth have changed, I couldn’t play anymore but this afternoon I was successful again. Bring me my flute!
Very well done Michel. I used to sing. The advantage of church from home no one can here how badly I now sing. 🙂
i am sure , Bonnie , your melodious is charming Will and Mr Grey! 🙂 Encouragement !
Thank you Michel.
You are welcome, John.
Bravo, Michel ! Lazarevitch ne ferait que marginalement mieux !
Merci Gilles ! Je me traîne à mille lieues derrière lui!
Well done! A comfort to always have an instrument that you can carry with you. I have always wished for that, but never applied myself to learn anything but a few notes on the piano.
Play away I’m the new year, my friend!
It’s sure Rachel , music may be and is a comfort. I like the last line of your comment so speaking and poetic . ❤
What a wonderful post Michel! I never knew you played. And the video in the garden is beautiful.
Thanks Nico . Do you play music too ?
As a boy I played the clarinet but no more.
Here is for you , Nico: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rw4OaudPScM
Thank you Michel!
I am so happy , Nico.
❤️ I love this! I miss hearing my Daughter play her clarinet since she grew up and moved away to start her own family. The music is your companion…
So true , Susan .Perhaps your daughter continues to play clarinette at her home ( for Piper ) ? ❤
I loved the music – in fact Sparky heard the music from the other room and had to come in to listen! He compliments you! I’m so happy that you have discovered you can still play! Play on this song of life…
So, Sparky , was hearing my “concert” in solo in the garden , Val ? 🙂
I never knew you played the flute…sounds beautiful! Glad you can play again!
Take care and God bless you and Janine ❤
yes Gayle i am discret about my poor “talents ” ❤
so wonderful to hear such music made by you and your flute ❤
Your comment rejoices my heart, Nancy. ❤
I don’t think anyone regrets learning to play a musical instrument. Every child should be encouraged to play one.
I agree Kathy. Playing music is a support . I think you play a musical instrument. Piano ?
It’s a joy to read and hear this Michel. Over the years you have accomplished so very much and continue to delight us. Thank you for sharing this ❤️
Do you think really I have accomplished so much , Holly? ❤
I know that you have and continue to do so. You are quite remarkable! ❤️
Thanks Holly but i don’t deserve such a compliment.
I have to stay modest, I think.
Very well, be modest. I stand by my opinion!🙂❤️
You are too kind, Holly. ❤
You in your garden playing your flute! What perfection!
I love flute music and you play so beautifully, Michel! Thank you for letting us listen in!
Your stories about where you played your flute, and who you played for, are delightful! 🙂
Playing music is good for the heart, mind, and soul…to the player and to those listening. 🙂
(((HUGS))) 🙂
Thank you very much , Carolyn.
Yes, playing music Instrument is comforting and appeasing .
Do you play a music instrument or do you sing ? ❤
a floutist in his garden – two things you love dearly, and a wife (whom you also love dearly) capturing a sweet moment – what a perfectly lovely video 🙂
Thanks, Marlaine ffor this kind comment. You are right.
A wonderful hobby to carry you through the years. I am so sorry you no longer enjoy it.
Thanks . Do you have anuy hobby, too ? 🙂
Photography, writing, knitting, crafts, gardening. I am not very musical.
Now I remember well your books , your knitting and of course gardening . You and your mother are champions in gardening. ❤
Thank you.
You are welcome . ❤
Yet another talent you have kept hidden from us! The video was simply lovely and Janine’s videography was very artistic.
Do I have hidden talents, Judy? I can assure you that I am not a cyclist! ❤
Wow! I’m familiar with Rameau, and to imagine you playing it on your flute is amazing to me! For the enjoyment of fellow readers (and you!), I’ve attached a link of a performance of this specific piece of Rameau music, with the score to follow along on. Fellow readers may enjoy looking into the French Baroque composer who also began writing some amazing operas in his later years. (“Les Boréades” is my personal favorite!) https://youtu.be/DrN6ZhC-ogc https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Bor%C3%A9ades
That is just beautiful. Being wakened with the soothing lovely sounds of the flute is the best way to start a day. Thank you for sharing ….God Bless.
It is sure, Françoise, the sound of the flute is appeasing for those who listen to it and for the one who plays ! 🙂
bonsoir Michel,

Excellent excellent excellent! I really enjoyed that!
Dear Michel,
Thank you for providing for us the video of you playing the flute. I love your stories about how you played and where you played. My daughter Saadia played flute from fourth grade all the way into college. Then she got too busy and gave up. She used to play in the local orchestra. Flute and Piano.
Thank you for such a beautiful visit into your garden. I love it. I absolutely love your garden and the apple tree full of fruit.
love,
Zakiah.
I am glad , Zakia, this video speaks to you . Yes this flute has a history ! 🙂 And the garden brings comfort . ❤
So lovely to read your words and listen to you play the flute! I hope one of your grandchildren also plays.
peace 💜,
Jane
What a good surprise to read you, Jane . I am so happy .
About the grandchildren, only one plays a musical instrument : guitar ❤
I didn’t know you played the flute. Thanks for sharing! I love the video of you playing the flute in your garden ❤️
You see , Suzy, I have hidden talents ! 🙂
You certainly do!
Thanks Suzy but you are so Kind !
Michel, I am glad Janine caught that moment with the flute, and I love the recording of you! I am glad the flute is still with you, and that you are playing it again.
Much love to you, Janine and the family, ❤️
Lavinia
Thanks Lavinia . When the recording was made I was on the decline for the music but nevertheless the flute was like a faithful companion. I stopped with the health worries . I tried recently and i was amazed I could again play some melodies ! 🙂
Wow! You’re amazing!
Thank you for this video!
You know, music means the world to me.
I married a musician. He is a guitar player originally, and now he plays many instruments. Still, guitar is the love where the music is the sweetest…… like your flute.
Again, thank you, Michel, for this joy! Resa xo
Coming from an artist those compliments are touching me alot, Resa . ❤

That was beautiful, Michel! Thanks for sharing your flute history with us.
Thanks , Tim . Through the past the flute still is there ! 🙂
Well done. Thank you for sharing that. I loved reading about your love of the flute and hearing the music.
Tanks Elisabeth. Yes flute was a faithful friend in my life ! ❤
Oh, Michel!
This was so beautiful! What a treasure your flute is, and what a treasure your musical gifts. I really enjoyed this. I imagined I was a pedestrian walking by and how delighted I would feel to hear this beautiful music floating up in the air. You are a man of many talents. Thank you for sharing them.
Love, Caroline ❤
I likee , Caroline , when you say”hear this beautiful music floating in the air “”
Thank you ❤
I enjoyed the pictures of the flute, your notes and listening to you play it. Your garden seems like the perfect spot to play.
Yes Matt, it was a great time !
I was listening to some music online by Jean-Pierre Rampal and I thought of you and your flute, Michel!
How are you doing this week?
(((HUGS))) 🙂
Thanks , Carolyn? Jean-Pierre Rampal was a star player of flute ? I am a small apprentice but I loved plating flte . ❤
Yes, he was a star player. Flute is one of my favorite instruments to listen to. So I enjoy listening to him on YouTube.
A love for playing is key! And the enjoyment is shared by you and everyone you play for! 🙂
I remember when I was around 23 years old I was responsible of a camp of ten agers
At night I played flute ouside at the beginning of the night to calm them . This worked ! 🙂
I’m so glad it worked! 🙂 It would work for me! I find flute music so relaxing, comforting, beautiful! 🙂
I would be happy for someone to play the flute to help me fall asleep at night (which is difficult at the moment)
I agree. I would like the same. 🙂
The soft round sound of the flute can envelop you in sleep-promoting well-being , Carolyn! 🙂
what a lovely video clip and such special memories, so many hearts you’ve touched with your flute Michel!
The “concert” was principally interesting by the romantic background of the garden! However it is true, Kate, when I was a young man the flute enchanted certainely manuy! ❤
and what a treasure of fond memories you have to draw upon Michel 🙂
That is true, Kate, the flute is linked to the successive phases of my life since the childhood until then . When I play flute I see again with precision the circumstances when I plaid it This the magic flute like Mozart said ! ❤

how delightful to have such a talent you can share 😉
A belated bonne année to you and yours! Apologies, the holidays were very stressful and the last days I think I’ve had some sort of illness.
I am sorry to read you have been sick at the end of the holiidays, Nail. . Covid ?
So I have to wish you a healthy year 2022. Take care .
I think it is an illness because I’ve been extremely tired, just as when fighting an infection. But besides that there has been only the barest of discomfort, only a tickle in my chest. Of course these days every small thing, but especially things like that, make us worry . . .
You don’ t say if you got your vaccine , Neil . I hope yes .
What does your doctor say about the disease that tires you and makes you worry .
Go to the doctor or call him , Neil. Don’ t wait more .
In friendship
Michel
I must confess I haven’t gotten the vaccine yet, out of inertia, not unwillingness. That makes me part of the problem!
I think it is just the effects of prolonged stress and low resistance. If it were covid, I would have needed hospitalization by now.
Neil , you have to go to the doctor whatever the origin of your troubles : inertia, long stress . Tell the docteur the all of your life . He will help you .
Courage
Unfortunately old habits die hard. I have the traditional Chinese aversion to doctors, not to mention when I was young I was like most young people and didn’t worry too much about health. Even more unfortunately, though, right now I can’t afford the doctor & just have to take my chances . . .
Michel, I don’t know how I missed this delightful post! I love flute music, and to see you playing in your lovely, peaceful garden is a rare treat! Kudos to you and to Janine for filming your performance! I am happy that you are playing again. I used to play piano (not very well!) and I was a soloist at my church for many years. That was a very long time ago! 🙂
Cheryl ❤ ❤ ❤
We have warm memories from this time when we played or sang so well, Cheryl.
❤
Sometimes I wonder if I should learn the piano… I didn’t have the chance when I was younger.
But, to my shame, I lack perseverance.
Always play flute. You and your flute make beautiful, soothing music for the soul.
i’m late to posting a reply here, but i just wanted to say thank you for the video of you playing your flute. i hope when i get to be your age i might still be playing 😉
