Will we get a white Christmas?

Aurons-nous un Noël blanc?

English version below the pictures

Decembre 2009 I shoveled the snow , je dégagais la neige Photo Janine Fauquet
Painting made in December 1947 by Michel Fauquet

In the far past we often have snow in December in the northen France where I live

In 2009 on December 17, in the morning, the snow covered all of the things . I had to make a path in the driveway and on the sidewalk.

In the past the winters were harder in our region of Northern France . I found again a painting that I made when I was around 14 years old ( 1947) . I don’ t remember if it came from my imagination or if I was inspired by an image . It shows women walking in the snow to spend the evening  at someone ‘s house and bearing their spinning wheel . This should be at the XIX th century ! But It shows also that in those years 40’s and 50’s the snow in December was normal .And we walked at feet or rode bicycle. No many cars at this time in France. Life had mostly a rural style.

Yucca in buds en boutons

And what about this year 2020 ? I see the Yucca in our front yard having already buds! There are also some roses polyanthas . I do not think we will have a White Christmas .

Whatever, my friends, I wish you a Christmas the most happy possible in praying God be helping you.

  1. Traditionally, Cincinnati has an 18% chance of a white Christmas. Forecasters are saying we may get a light snow the day before, but with falling temperatures, we may see some white this year. Yet, like you, I think back to past winters and also see trends. Merry Christmas to you and your family and friends …. and thanks for sharing your painting.

  2. Stephanie Wall says:

  3. attatudy says:

So for this year we have had 10 inches of snow. That is very typical here in New York. Love the painting. You apparently have always been an artist. Have a very merry Christmas Michel and you’re family too.

  4. Eat Right Chef Louisa says:

I adore your painting done when you were 14!!! It’s wonderful to have a white Christmas, but the anticipation itself makes it all the more fun. Perhaps you won’t have snow this year, but I hope you will have joy, love and peace this very special holiday season, Michel. Joyeux Noël <3!!!

    • Avec ou sans neige on essaiera de bien célébrer Noël ,mais sans familial gathering like we used to do ( because the cofid )

  5. murisopsis says:

The snow does add a touch of nostalgia but I don’t think the Christ Child is bothered one way or another. It is our hearts bursting from from frozen to aflame that He looks for… May the love of Christmas brightens your hearth and heart this year! Love, Val

  6. blb1 says:

A blessed Christmas to you and your family. We certainly won’t have a white Christmas. 🙂

  7. eastgoeseast says:

I agree with you Michel, the winters are not what they used to be! Very mild here in Berlin as well. No snow in sight. And still very green. But we still have January and February ahead of us, so who knows?
Your old painting is very nice. Well done!

  8. atagrandma says:

I love your painting. We might get a little snow, but I don’t think there will be much. So far our weather has been mild. Thank you for your prayers. Wishing you a most blessed Christmas.

  9. LGail says:

We had deep snows here in the 1960s. Now we hardly get an inch of snow 3 or 4 times per year.
I wish you and Janine…and the whole family a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

  10. mrswrangler says:

We had five inches on the ground when we arrived home on Thursday. But it quickly started disappearing the last two days and with highs in the 50’s the next two will be a thing of the past.

  11. Lavinia Ross says:

The painting you mad is beautiful, Michel! Yes, winter seems to be getting milder many places, including here.

Much love to you, Janine and the family, ❤

    • Thanks Lavinia . Your comment is there , this time . I don’ t know what happened to your reply on Doug’s post ?
All of the systems are never perfect and sometimes failure happens
      Love ❤

  12. Merry Christmas Michel! Wishing you and your wonderful family great blessings my friend.

  13. I have found you again, Dear Friend! It’s great to read what your thoughts and to see what you’ve been doing. You inspire me to think about writing again (It seems I do most of my writing on Facebook, nowadays, which is shorter). Merry Christmas!

    • I remember you but it was on Xanga, I think. . When I click on your name I go to a “gravatar”.!
. Please could you tell me your facebook name, I wish you a merry Christmas . ❤

  14. calmkate says:

so relieved you don’t have to shovel any snow Michel!

Pray you and yours have a joyous season 🙂

  15. Beautiful!!!! How do you say in French?

  16. simplysuzu says:

Quelle belle peinture. Vous êtes un bon artiste.

I visited Europe last winter hoping to see some snow. But no luck. With all the train strikes, we didn’t get to visit around much as well. No hope for this year either but next year, perhaps? Hopefully. 🙂

  17. I hope you and your family will have a safe and wonderful Christmas. I’m not sure if we’ll have a white Christmas here too. I didn’t know you started painting at such an early age. It’s great that you still have them.

  18. Yvonne says:

    Dear Michel and Janine,
Best wishes and blessings for a joyous Christmas and New Year.

    Yvonne and Family
P.S. Cards for Christmas and Janine's birthday went in the mail late (my apologies for that), so they may take longer to reach you. ❤ Yvonne

  19. Oh, I love your painting, Michel!!! 🙂 You were born an artist and have expressed your talents so well in drawing, painting, singing, writing, etc! 🙂

Isn’t it interesting how we have sensory memories and remembered emotions related to snow this time of the year. 🙂 We remember the BIG snows and how we felt and what we were doing, and so much more. 🙂

We usually get our biggest snows in Jan and Feb. 🙂

Your plants are beautiful…I’ve always found yuccas to be unique and wonderful! 🙂

Whatever the weather outside, I hope you, Janine, and your family have a warm, wonderful, sweet, memorable Christmas in your hearts. 🙂
    HUGS!!! 🙂

  20. Gayle says:

We used to have a lot of a snow but lately we just have 3 or 4nches at a time. I remember when the snow was up to the telephone lines and the only place that was clean was
    the driveways!
I hope you and Janine and family have a wonderful and blessed Christmas Michel. God bless you all! ❤

  21. Anne says:

  22. Marion says:

I’ve always wanted to have a white Christmas! Enjoy Christmas with your wonderful family, Michel. ❤

    • Thank you , Marion . It is sure in Australia snow is impossible at Christmas . Nevertheless, Christmas is there ! ❤

      • Marion says:

Did you receive my Christmas card to you? I sent it a long time ago. Also, you’ve missed the photo of me on a horse (on my FB page). It’s another photo you haven’t seen before. 🙂 If you scroll down you’ll find it on my page. ❤

  23. Caro says:

BB

  24. Doug Thomas says:

Personally, I won’t miss snow this year. It’s been warmish here as well. There is frost on my car windows in the morning, so I know it is winter, but snow impedes travel and has to be scooped off sidewalks. When I was younger, I thought of scooping snow as exercise (it is!) but not a hassle. The older I got, I thought of it as “heart attack weather”. LOL!

I enjoyed your art and your post today. Snow or not, may you and your family have as safe and pleasant a Christmas as possible in this pandemic year, and the best of new years in 2021.

  25. puffpop says:

When we lived in Northern OH, we had snow perhaps 60 % of the Christmases but the snow soon turned to ugly grey mush. When large white flakes of snow come down during the Christmas season, it does warm the heart and help with the Christmas Spirit. Here in Central FL, we had actually snow one Christmas eve…1987 and had to go out and cover all of the orange trees. The Citrus growers had too much damage done to many of the groves. It is usual for FL to have a very colorful Christmas with sun, red holly berries and Green Mistletoe…much more “Christmassy” then grey slush…

You are multi talented with writing, music and illustrating……
    My Christmas will be quiet.

I have a feeling that there was little or no snow when Jesus was born in Bethlehem…
    votre amie,

    • You are right , Françoise , there is not snow in Bethleem, I think .. Joseph and Marie made a long way to go to Betheem and I would be surprised they walked in the snow..
How will you pass this Christmas ? with children? ❤

  26. Susan Joos says:

My daughter always hoped for a white Christmas. It was surprising to me how many times she got one, even if it was just a light fall of flakes on Christmas Eve!

Usually we have more snow later in the season than we do in December, which is good for holiday traveling, anyway.

    • I went to Toronto (Canada Ontario ) in the end of December 2001. I was outfited like a man of polar expedition. You know what ? No snow and a sunny and sweet weather . I was funny to see!! :

  27. nannyfountain says:

Merry, Blessed Christmas to you and your family! I am spending my time feeding the little creatures that come into my yard and smiling at God’s gifts. Love to you and Janine ❤

  28. judyrutrider says:

If a white Christmas is what you long for, I hope it comes to pass. Here we have all but given up hope for any rain at all this year. I hold dear the memories of streams that flowed perennially that now are dry nearly all year. I wonder how the wildlife manages without surface water.

  29. julie says:

Merry Christmas to all the family , hopefully you are able to celebrate with some of the family. It does look like its going to be a cold and frosty Christmas here

  30. Lesley Gilchrist said :
We may get frost here Michel. Today (Tuesday) has been cold.

We have had several snows since October, and the weather forecast is for severe cold weather the rest of this week. Not sure if we will have snow though. Happy Christmas to you and your family dear Michel.

  34. Carol McKay Harper said:
Enjoyed your post as usual. Even our Minnesota grandson has no snow yet. Doubt we get any here in Missouri.

  39. We may get some snow on Christmas Day. Temps to warm, but today 12/23 it is colder. Love you drawing of women walking in the snow. Yes, I have saved it for later printing it. John and I wish you, Janine and your family a very Blessed Christmas. These trying time too shall pass. We never must loose faith or hope. Much to you and your family…..Marilyn. ❤

  42. Loved your painting.. and yes It is a few years since we had a white Christmas here in the UK.. Today none stop rain.. 🙂 But every cloud has a silver lining my friend… And if it doesn’t snow you wont have to shovel the driveway clear 🙂

Sending you much love to you and your good wife.. Have a blessed Christmas… Thank you for your friendship and your patience…. I hope to do better in my visits soon.. 🙂 ❤ 🙂

  43. Rachel says:

    Merry Christmas, my friend! 🌹

Coucou – Joyeux Noël à tous et à toutes ! Matti.

  45. We rarely get the white stuff. But We are praying. White or not, may your Christmas be joyful and blessed. ❤

  46. marica0701 says:

Merry (late) Christmas! I hope that your family had a joyous and blessed day.

We finally had a white Christmas here in northeastern Ohio today 🙂

  47. suester7 says:

I wonder if the decrease in snow is due to global warming? Here in Singapore, we get more rain in December and the weather is cooler, which is a welcome relief for us.

Merry Christmas, Michel, to you and your family!

PS: my grandmother passed away on 22 Dec 2020. Our family and relatives came together to mourn her passing, and I’m once again reminded of the importance of family. It is so comforting to have them with us. We were not able to meet this year because of Covid, but we could gather at the funeral as long as there were no more than 30 of us.

  48. It has snowed only one time in the past 100 years in Tampa, so we never expect a white Christmas. This morning it was nearly cold enough, 35 degrees Fahrenheit (2 Celsius), but it warmed up quickly and is now 53 (13 C). We will probably walk today rather than ride our bikes, because it is too chilly to ride.

I hope you have had a wonderful Christmas. Ours has been very good.

    • To walk in this wonderful region of Florida is like a dream . You will have time to admire the beauty of the landscape.
I hope you got a great Christmas, Tim . For us the famlial gathering was reduced to 6 adults and two childen instead of 27 usually . Cause ? The coronavirus !!!

  49. Marsha Bryant says:

Merry Christmas Mornin Glorie! And a Happy New year too! Ilym ❣️

  50. Isabel Capillas says:

White Christmas or not, I wish you and Janine and your whole family a very Merry Christmas and may you all enjoy the Holidays ; Stay safe and healthy and may God continue to shower you with blessings❤️
