La première photo, envoyée par mon cousin René , celui qui parle aux phoques et aux petits canards, montre une voiture Citroën C4 de 1928. Elle a 5 ans de plus que moi. Pas tellement ! Mon cousin a envoyé cette photo probablement parce que j’ai acheté en février 2017 une voiture Citroën C4 (photo 2) bien sûr totalement différente de son ancêtre. Cette récente C4 s’appelle «Cactus». Quel nom! 🙂
Entre les deux voitures, 89 ans ont passé: une vie
The first photo , sent to me by my cousin René , the one who talks to the seals and to the little ducks , shows a car Citroën C4 from 1928. It is 5 years older than me . Not so much ! My cousin sent this photo probably because I bought in February 2017 a car Citroën C4 ( photo 2) of course totally different of its ancestor . This recent C4 is called « Cactus » . What a name ! 🙂
Between the two cars 89 years have passed : a lifetime !
Puisque nous parlons de la vie, Janine et moi fêtions hier notre 58ème anniversaire de mariage. Pour être exact, cet anniversaire est aujourd’hui le 18 février, mais nous sommes allés dans un restaurant hier dimanche vers midi, après la messe. Ah! mes amies ! Quel repas! Quel repas!
C’est probablement pourquoi je suis tombé en sortant du restaurant. Le pas de la porte était haut. Tout mon corps et surtout mon genou droit se sont écrasés sur les pavés du trottoir. Un étranger, un gentil Samaritain probablement, aida Janine à me lever. C’était douloureux pour le moment mais quelque temps après, j’étais mieux et j’ai pensé à l’une des Béatitudes entendues le matin à l’ église! (béatitudes de St Luc 6,20-26 )

Since we are talking about life, yesterday, Janine and I were celebrating our 58th wedding anniversary. To be exact, this anniversary is today February 18th, but we went to a restaurant yesterday Sunday around noon, after the Mass. Ah! my friends ! What a meal! What a meal!
That’s probably why I fell in leaving the restaurant. The step of the door was high. My whole body and especially my right knee crashed on the cobblestones of the sidewalk. A stranger, probably a nice Samaritan helped Janine to get me up. It was painful at the moment but some time later, I was better and I thought about one of the Beatitudes of Luke (6,21) heard at the church in the morning:
« Blessed are you who weep now , for you will laugh.”

Wow! What an eventful day! Happy (Late) Birthday, Happy (Late) Anniversary, and thank goodness you weren’t more seriously injured in your fall, Michel! Congratulations to you and Janine on 58 years of marriage, too! That is an amazing number that many people don’t achieve in their marriages. May you two have many, many more!

It is a significant anniversary!
And more , I know Janine since 1957 but I had to end my studies and make the service in the French army until December 30 th of 1960. We married in february 18th 1961
My mother had a similar situation. She and my father were serious about each other for five years before they married. My father was two years younger than my mother, and she always said she had to wait till he turned 21 before they could get married! The were married for 71 years, until Dd died in 2008.
Sorry to here that you fell. Congratulations on that many years together. Anything over 50 is a bonus in my eyes. Death likes to strike early in some cases like my dad and 15 years later my mom is still alone living on memories.

Thanks. My dad died suddenly with no warning. I am the oldest and was 17. Mom was in her 40s.
What a sadness for your mother . This recalls to me the death of my two parents the same day in 1956. . I was 23 . Since this time I go twice by year to pray on their grave
Thank you. I still go a couple times of year to the grave. I use to have to go every trip to town but now less than in the past.

Oh, Michel! It’s so painful to fall on the pavement. I do hope you did not damage your knee. I think you should take up mountain biking as it is safer than restaurant steps 🙂

Congratulations and happy anniversary to you and Janine, I’m glad you had a wonderful dinner together. I’m very sorry about the fall. They are so scary now that we aren’t kids anymore. Back then we bounced right back up and ran on our way. I’m glad you had no serious injuries.

Thank you Christine . Yes we got an excellent time at the restaurant . We were two like 58 years ago . The fall did not make serious damages at my knee ; this is only a bit sensitive .

We celebrated your anniversary this morning with Ken shoveling another 3 inches of snow. On Friday, our 58th anniversary, we will be going to church for the Devotional Service I attend every month. The only service I can handle any more, because it is only 1/2 hour, and no getting up and down in the pew. Communion is given while seated in the pew. Enjoy the rest of your day, Michel and Janine! Oh no, your poor knee! I winced when I read that, since my knee surgery was just a little over a year ago and the thought of falling on it makes me nervous.
At least you had a delicious meal, and a Good Samaritan come to your aid!

You are right Susan we always have to take care where we put our feet to keep our balance . Janine got also a surgery at her knee some years ago . Now at this knee she got arthritis but this does not bother her for gardening.

P.S. I’m using the horses’ arnica gel on hematomas, it is highly concentrate and works very well also on humans… Your daughter the Duchesse can help you to find it.
Thanks Annalisa for the tip. Yes, my daughter has this arnica gel and us too. But at my knee there is skin flayed. It’s like a superficial wound. Janine applied an adhesive antiseptic dressing.
Happy Anniversary to you and Jeanine! I hope your poor knee is on the mend. Tumbling is no way to end an evening! I love the then and now auto photos. After eighty nine years you would think the differences would be astounding. We have come a long way to remain in comfort while stuck in traffic 🙂

It is with joy that I rejoice with to you and Jeaninne on your 58th wedding anniversary! That is so amazing and such an accomplishment. My longest marriage was 14 years and my shortest was 4 1/2. It’s so difficult to stay married today because people represent them selves in one way before you get married and afterward you find out differently! You and Jeaninne are deeply in love and it shows. May you enjoy many more and please don’t trip and fall. Next time you call me and I’ll come to France and I’ll go with you and make sure you don’t fall down!

happy anniversary, michel and janine- what a wonderful long life you have had together. my parents would have celebrated their 61st anniversary in december, except that my dad passed away in november. they, too, had a good long life together. the commitment to one person for such a long time is a good example to others who may be watching.

My grandmother (who’s 89), fell last year, and ended up in hospital for a day or two. Today she’s fine and walking about, looking for her favorite bargains. 🙂

Congratulations being so long time married. My hat! I wish that You are alright now after Your fall. I fell down on this slippery street this winter when I crossed the street. I didn’t get up, but my wife helped me. My chest was painful for a couple of weeks. Luckily, I got my head up, so it didn’t get hurt.
