Motorbikers in 1958

English version below the picture

Vive l’ amour!

Janine and I were leaving her parents’ house for a short trip in the family riding a motorcycle. It was in 1958. I had met Janine for a year but there still was  the military service to do and I married her only in February 1961.

We were happy to ride this valiant bike, a  French brand : a Terrot. Though it  was a excellent  and elegant machine it has disappeared for long. We were well equipped to face the hardness of the weather

We were with life before us and we were considering the future with confidence to build a family that grew 6 children

To Life! To love !

This is wonderful…celebrating life and love and looking forward to what lies ahead.

The motorcycle duo is the best…You look very serious. Janine looks full of joy and laughter.
She looks beautiful riding the bike.
    A fun entry!
Today we are celebrating also…64 years of marriage. How are we celebrating?
John is in dialysis this morning. I am washing clothes walking dog, cleaning kitty litter and cooking our anniversary dinner of roast beef, potatoes and green beans…
Not exactly like it was 64 years ago.

God has helped both of us survive some close encounters with the only thing that can separate us in this life…death. “Till death do us part” So every moment is to be savored.

In 1958 I was working as a Nurses Aide after high school graduation. Can’t remember when I met Wil, first time I didn’t like him. LOL Later in life when he had a motorcycle here in TX I rode with him. No pictures exist of that.

  4. My dad rode a motorcycle for a few years. It always made him smile when he talked about those times.

WOW.. you too do not look much different. Especially Janine. I am leaving Saturday this week to stay with my mother for a month. I intend to go through some of her old pictures of her and my father and myself as a girl and baby. I’ll bring them home for my children and grandchildren to see. She has a chest full of the pictures. Hopefully, I can convince her to come and live out the rest of her life with me here in New York. That will be a daunting task.

  7. OH, how wonderful, Michel! 🙂 I love hearing about when you and Janine met! 🙂
The photo shows a precious memory! And reflects a life of love that has unfolded since that day! You two love-birds are blessed! 🙂
Always fun to take a bike ride! And I laughed that your little Cousin ran along beside you!
    HUGS!!! 🙂

I enjoy old family photos for the stories they tell and the memories they bring back!

    • Yes I would believe it was yesterday, Doug!

      • weggieboy says:

In a certain time of life, those old times do seem like yesterday! I was in the US Army in 1969-1972, yet it astonishes me to realize how many years ago that was!

      • We don’t realize the time passes but it did it

      • weggieboy says:

I personally am glad to be past the working life because I have lots of time to do the things I enjoy. When I worked, I didn’t like taking all the vacation time I had. (The last 16 years I worked, I had five weeks vacation each year, an amount not typical for Americans.) Taking five weeks at a time would have left me vulnerable to office politics, a major problem in the workplace, so I’d take a Friday off several times a year, then take the time between Christmas and New Years off to use up the rest. How could a person miss that regimen?! Now I can blog, read, follow politics on television, the other media, have social luncheons with friends, etc., all things I didn’t make time for while working.

  17. Wow what a great photo!! I had no idea you’d be one for motorcyles! I love where the licence plate is found!
Mike and I love riding scooters around Bermuda and in Stanley Park, Vancouver. There’s such a thrill going quickly through the open air on a bike!

I had a friend in medical school, who owned a motorbike. He was one of the very few boys who owned one. We would go for evening rides out in the country, and feel the wind in our faces. Those were happy days.
Your post reminded me of my friend, his bike and our youth.
    THANK YOU.
    love,
    Zakiah.
